The current Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi has named who he feels should take over from him as the winner of the award later this year.
The Argentine was speaking at an interview with Tyc Sports earlier this week concerning who he considers should be crowned the next winner of the award. According to the Argentine, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema should win the award following his performance in the UEFA Champions League.
I think there are no doubts, it is very clear that Benzema had a spectacular year and ended up cementing his position with the Champions League victory. He was fundamental from the Round of 16 onwards in all the games. I think there are no doubts this year.
Benzema was a key part of the team that helped Real Madrid win the competition on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 at the expense of Liverpool. The French man scored a hat trick in the second leg against PSG and in the first league against Chelsea in the second round and quarterfinal respectively. He scored 44 goals in 43 games for Real Madrid this season.
